Diary of a Bride-to-Be: I Said Yes!

Well, it happened! I got engaged! In possibly one of the prettiest places in the country, I might add- Yellowstone National Park. I knew something was up, but I could never have guessed the details of how I'd become engaged! Here's how it happened:
My man and I traveled to Mammoth Hot Springs because he wanted gluten free hot dogs and to go for a hike. We ordered our hot dogs and he disappeared “to the restroom” for about half an hour. I later found that he was borrowing a Sharpie from the General Store and writing on the map he would soon use in his proposal... After eating, we hiked a hill littered with cow pies (buffaloads?). Out of breath, we arrived at the top where I jumped on a rock and started taking photos of the view. My soon-to-be-fiance asked what mountains were in the distance and when I said I didn't know, he asked me to help open the map so we could find out. On the map he had written, “Our journey thus far has been the most moving and wonderful time of my life. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met. I love you so very much!” This message was followed by photo of his family members that were also on the trip holding a hand crafted banner that read “Will you marry me?”. He pulled the ring from his backpack. After I said yes and we finished enjoying the view, we headed back down the mountain and out of the park for champagne at the family cabin. The cabin was decorated with balloons, the banner, and a photo of our puppy wishing us congratulations!

The Ring
The Map

So that's the story! He did a good job, right?

We are planning the wedding for the Summer of 2015, so there's lots more to come! For more of my wedding wondering and bridal breakthroughs, check back soon! xoxo

Follow Your Heart... Elizabeth shares her love story

It's your wedding day, YOUR wedding day... Who says you have to wear a white dress? Who says you have to follow the trends of other brides? No one. This is the day you get to follow your heart that has lead you to this day in the first place.
I met Graham at Arizona State University in 2007, and we developed a friendship almost instantly while studying Electromagnetism in the Engineering program. We quickly learned that there were more sparks flying between us than what we were observing in lab. We waited to get engaged until after we both graduated (4 years later!). However, that wait made planning my wedding that much more special. I knew I HAD to get my dress at Suzanne's because my older sister had such a great experience when selecting her wedding dress. Suzanne's did not disappoint. I came in for my first appointment with my notes on what I wanted and didn't want in a dress: sweetheart top, lace, anything but white and princess, and definitely not strapless. I basically wanted to stand out, and have my dress be a reflection me and my relationship with Graham. In just 45 short minutes, Suzanne's and my older sister pulled my dress, Jasmine T180, in gold. I fell in love with the lace, the cut, the sweetheart top, the sash, and the cute bolero. It was unexpected, and everything I had hoped for, just like Graham...

People ask, "How do you know when he's 'the one'?" This question is often answered with the obvious, "You just know," but as an engineer, and a problem solver, I know there is more to it than just knowing. Falling in love shouldn't start in your head with what you know, but your heart with what you feel. I fell in love with Graham because he was... well, charming, kinda geeky (like me), funny, and he made me feel happiness I had never before experienced. I was reminded of all of the reasons I loved Graham when I looked into the mirror wearing MY wedding dress that Thursday afternoon in October- the dress that I wore the first time I was called Mrs. Graham...- the start of my life with Graham, my husband. Suddenly, March 3, 2012 seemed farther away than that first day in Electromagnetism, when I first met the man I would marry.

So don't stop following your heart... ever.
Elizabeth
