Above & Beyond: One Bride's Shopping Experience

We asked our featured bride, Alyson, to tell us about her dress shopping experience at Suzanne's Bridal Boutique. This is what she had to say:

First, my dress and veil, which both came from Suzanne's, was absolutely stunning and I still receive complements about my dress to this day!

I had a VERY unique wedding dress shopping experience. I only wanted to shop for my wedding gown with my mom. She had gone with only her Mom when she got married, and I wanted to carry that tradition on. And looking back now, I am so thankful it was just my mom and I who were able to share this moment together of wedding dress shopping.

My Mom and I had drive up from Yuma bright and early on December 30^th 2010. We had scheduled the next days for wedding dress shopping and we were scheduled at the various boutiques. After a VERY negative experience at our first bridal boutique, I called Suzanne’s to see if we could move our scheduled appointment to a sooner time. Suzanne actually answered the phone and was so genuinely nice and so sweet.  I was literally in tears about our first experience of wedding dress shopping. Suzanne reassured me that they would take care of me at her bridal store and they truly did that and more! When we arrived, Suzanne came out, gave me a hug, and introduced me to our consultant. Our consultant [Rosina] showed us briefly the dresses and explained the designers. Being open for “any” type of wedding dress, my mom and I literally began just choosing some that we thought we’d like - and the consultant selected one! By the time I put on the dress the consultant selected, I knew it was the one! After purchasing my dress, I was informed that it was also the dress that Miss Arizona was going to be wearing for Miss America. My mom and I went and got something to eat and then ended up going back and finding my mom’s MOB dress also! And she looked absolutely stunning at our wedding!

Suzanne’s Bridal truly went above and beyond in all aspects of our wedding dress shopping experience. The friendly, courteous staff was welcoming and helped make my experience such a positive memory that I will cherish forever. Also, the staff was excellent to work with since we were driving from Yuma for fittings, veil shopping, etc. Suzanne’s Bridal was such a wonderful experience we have recommended this boutique to numerous other brides from Yuma whom have also ended up finding their wedding dress there! Suzanne’s Bridal is a clear, distinct depiction as to how every bride wants to be treated during this special time in their life!

Our wedding day was the best day of my life, but I can truly say that being married to Tim is the best day of my life….. every day. Tim has been the biggest blessing in my life and I am so thankful and blessed that God has brought the two of us together to spend the rest of our lives together! - Alyson

Real Bride: Susan

It can be hard to pull off a great themed wedding, but our beautiful bride, Susan, and her groom, Jason, did it perfectly!! Having lived in Venice, Susan really wanted to bring the spirit and fun of an evening at Carnival to her wedding. She picked the perfect venue - Villa Sienna in Gilbert, AZ - and the perfect gown - Aurelie by Maggie Sottero - and brought Carnival to life - right down to the authentic Italian masks that were imported from Venice and the costumed Carnival entertainers! Just looking at the photos makes us feel like we were part of a fantastic evening at Carnival!

From the bride: Suzanne's Bridal was excellent.  Starting the hunt for a gown is a daunting process.  I knew that I needed something extra special to stand out and match the Venetian Carnival Masquerade Ball theme we had planned.  I narrowed it down to a designer and several options.  Suzanne's was the only store in town who had the majority of my choices on hand.  The dress I chose was the first one I tried on (and in the color I wanted)...I did my due diligence around town, but in the end, Suzanne's offered the best selection, price and service.  And I just knew it was my dress--I felt like the belle of the ball the minute they tightened those laces!  They were with me every step of the way--including a last minute 'training' session for my mother on how to tie the French Bustle and suggestions on hair pieces vs. tiaras!  I really felt cared for at Suzanne's and that my wedding day mattered to them.

Our bride Jaclyn S. knows this first hand. Although she was living here in Arizona, her wedding was hundreds of miles away in Ohio. Thank You Thursday: Amanda

You would have never guessed Amanda spent most of her days underneath the hoods of cars. A mechanic by trade, Amanda came in looking for something that would make her feel like a princess on her big day. She may have been surrounded by men while at work, but she wanted to feel totally woman when she walked down the aisle.

When she found this gown by Moonlight Bridal, she fell in love. Before she left our bridal boutique, she knew she had found The Dress. Her only complaint was that it didn't have the color in it that she'd been dreaming of. Amanda really wanted to weave her royal blue wedding color into the dress. She'd had visions of blue ribbons or beads or sashes or anything that would make her dress really stand out.

That was no problem of course! Suzanne came to her rescue by adding in the blue panel pictured and replacing the white corset tie with a royal blue one. It was just what Amanda dreamed of and she loved it!

In Honor of Katie and Romeo

For those of you who know me, you know how much I loved my beagles, Katie and Romeo. I lost Katie on January 17th and her brother, Romeo lost his battle with cancer on July 22nd. I can't believe it's been two months! I just wanted to take a moment to thank Dr. Lynda Beaver and her wonderful staff at Arizona Veterinary Specialists who took care of and loved Romy for a year and a half of chemotherapy and treatments. No more compassionate and wonderful staff exists. They laughed, loved and cried with me through the whole process and I feel like they are my family now. They even call and check in on me now again to see how I'm doing. Dr. Beaver made a generous donation on Romeo's behalf to the Veterinary Cancer Society and Romeo will be honored in the upcoming Fall newsletter which will be available online in October at http://www.vetcancersociety.org/memorials.html. Anyone who has ever loved and lost a pet knows how I feel today. Someday the tears will end, but the love will live forever. Grandma misses you both every day.

Thank You Thursday: Cinderella Pageant Talent Winner, Renee

Along with dressing brides, one of our favorite things to do is wardrobe pageant contestants - both young and old. This week's thank you comes from the mother of one of our younger pageant girls, Renee.  Renee was recently a competitor in the Arizona Cinderella Scholarship Pageant. The Cinderella pageant system focuses on inner beauty and promotes self-confidence in young women. We're pleased to help these young pageant contestants when we can. Thank You Thursday: Sharisa

We've all heard about what a whiz Suzanne is on the sewing machine. We've see the necklines reworked, the sleeves added, and the hems adjusted. But the true testament of what kind of sewing genius Suzanne is comes out when she custom designs a dress for a bride. Admittedly, she doesn't get to do too many custom gowns due to the volume of special order gowns she works on (she claims we chain her to her sewing machine...we have no comment. *smiles*), but when she does, these gowns always make a statement.

Sharisa's dress is one that Suzanne is particularly proud of. Sharisa had a vision of something unique, couture, stylish.  We'd say that Suzanne did a spectacular job of making that vision come to life - and Sharisa thinks so too.  She emailed us this quick note:

Just wanted to shoot you this iPhone pic of the dress. . . . . . . I hope you know how much I appreciate your time and effort on the dress. It turned out better than I could have even hoped for :) I have had everyone I know asking me about where it came from so I've been raving about you on facebook since the wedding!! Hello Hello!  Welcome to another edition of Thank You Thursday!

In a wedding, we know it's all about the bride.  Because if the bride ain't happy...ain't no one happy.  But lest we get so wrapped up in the beautiful bride, we though we should take a minute to acknowledge a fabulous mother who thought we were fabulous too:

Dear Suzanne,

I wanted to thank you very much for all your help. My "mother of the groom" gown came out beautifully, it fit perfectly because of your expert and patient alterations. The drive from Tucson was worth all the time in the car and the fitting trips.

I cannot express how thankful I was to find my way to your store. Your staff was very helpful and steered me toward a dress they knew would be good for me. After losing 80 pounds this year I really wanted a dress to help me celebrate my accomplishment and also to look elegant and age appropriate (without being frumpy) for my son's wedding.

I never felt more pretty and I got so many enthusiastic compliments on the gown. I highly recommend that you keep that dress in the store - it was the Moonlight Celebrations by Val Stefani, MB7096 in charcoal. It is deceiving in the catalog pictures and online - it really it quite stunning on. I will send a photo as soon as the photographer makes them available.



The gown Cindy wore - which, as she states, is really amazing in person.

Thank You Thursday: A Special Thanks to Friends & Fans

For those of you who keep up with our Facebook and Twitter feeds, you know that the last few weeks have been pretty trying for our boss, Suzanne (Suz or Suzi to those who know and love her) .  And if you've ever spent a morning in our boutique watching her two Beagles, Katie and Romeo, pattering around, you know why.

It's been about a month since Suz had to put her female Beagle, Katie, down.  Anytime you have to put your pet down it's a very tough thing.  It's like losing a family member.  And the closer you are to your pet, the more intense the emotional impact can be.

Almost two weeks have passed since Romeo went missing for about seven hours one day.  Romeo is particularly close to Suz's heart.  Romeo has cancer.  His little bladder is nearly full of cancerous tumors and he has to take special medication - in addition to chemotherapy - to keep him going every day.  So not only was it scary to lose him, it was dangerous for his health.

Needless to say, Suzi was a wreck over her precious puppies.  There were many tears and it was all us consultants could do to try and console her.  What really helped was all the support she recieved from friends and fans from all over.  Thanks to Facebook and Twitter, word spread like wildfire about the loss of Katie and later the lost puppy Romeo.  All of us at Suzanne's owe all of you the biggest THANK YOU.  Your kind words have meant so much to Suz and has made tough days a little easier.

Big thanks goes out to all the different local animal groups, shelters, and vet offices that helped up search for Romeo when he lost his way.  All we can say is, "WOW." 

Special thanks as well to Arizona Weddings Magazine and Arizona's Finest Wedding Sites for blasting our lost puppy message across the digital world. 

And finally, a big, big thanks to the brides who have been so understanding when Suz had to take some time-outs to grieve or unwind.  She knows that brides come first in what we do.  We wouldn't be where we are without them.  But I think all of us know, as people, that occassionally we all need a little break.  And Suz probably deserves it more than anyone we know.  Personally, in the almost three years I've known her, I've never seen her take a day off or put a bride off for personal reasons.  This was a first.  But it shows the toll it's taken on her emotionally.  So for all the brides who showered her with love instead of complaints: thank you, thank you, thank you.

There have been tons of messages and cards coming into the boutique.  We could only share a few here, but we want to say thank you, again, to everyone who has been so understanding during this difficult time for Suz.

Thank You Thursday: Johnny & Stephanie

We always love getting thank you notes (obviously), but it's fun when they come from grooms who were in awe when they saw their beautiful bride coming down the aisle, like Johnny did.
Johnny's bride, Stephanie, came into the boutique as an expecting bride who needed a dress fairly quickly.  She was also a petite bride with a specific vision for her gown.  We had just what she was looking for, but the dress was several sizes too large.  Thankfully, she had Suzanne, our amazing owner and seamstress, on her side.  Suzanne brought the dress down several sizes without any problem and look at what the groom had to say:

"Hello . . ., My wife, Stephanie Flores (formerly Calvillo), and I were married in Las Vegas this past Saturday Sept. 26th. I'd like to start off this post with a thank you of my own.  To all 108 brides we had in October, from all of us at Suzanne's Bridal Boutique, THANK YOU!!  It was an absolutely incredible month for us at Suzanne's.  Not only did we have a record breaking number of brides, we had the most unique, diverse, and FABULOUS group of brides.  I mean, ALL of our brides are fabulous, but there was something...different...about this month.  I'm not sure what it was, but we are very grateful.  And we know that all of our future brides will bring the magic with them as well.
