After watching Princess Kate’s sister and maid of honor,
Pippa, saunter down the aisle in a white, cowl necked, form fitting gown, we had to ask: Is white okay for bridesmaids?
It’s always been a rule of etiquette that no one other than the bride should wear white to the wedding for fear that one might upstage the bride. But in a situation where the wedding gown is so obviously the dramatic focal point, would it really hurt for the bridesmaids to be dressed in white as well?
We say, “Why not?” White is a classic neutral that could add an air of lightness to your wedding palette. Colored bouquets and/or shoes will keep your pictures from looking like you lined up ghosts to be in your wedding party. White dresses – even white tuxedos – are like a blank canvas. Without colored dresses to compete with, you can really have some fun with loud, bright colors, like bright purple, hot pink, even neon shades of green.
So, don’t be afraid of letting someone else wear white…you may just find it to be the perfect backdrop to your big day.
