Thank You Thursday: Johnny & Stephanie

We always love getting thank you notes (obviously), but it's fun when they come from grooms who were in awe when they saw their beautiful bride coming down the aisle, like Johnny did.
Johnny's bride, Stephanie, came into the boutique as an expecting bride who needed a dress fairly quickly.  She was also a petite bride with a specific vision for her gown.  We had just what she was looking for, but the dress was several sizes too large.  Thankfully, she had Suzanne, our amazing owner and seamstress, on her side.  Suzanne brought the dress down several sizes without any problem and look at what the groom had to say:

"Hello . . ., My wife, Stephanie Flores (formerly Calvillo), and I were married in Las Vegas this past Saturday Sept. 26th. We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone involved in helping Stephanie find and fit into her dress. Let me just say that when I saw her standing at the chapel doors for the first time in her dress, I was in complete awe... she looked absolutely beautiful. . . . Thanks again for all your help.

Get Into Some Hanky Panky

I'd like to say that what you wear underneath you wedding gown is nobody's business, but the truth is, it's my business.  I want you to look good on your wedding day, so it's my job to make sure you're wearing the right under-things so that your dress fits you just right.

Thank You Thursday: Jennifer

I'd like to start off this post with a thank you of my own.  To all 108 brides we had in October, from all of us at Suzanne's Bridal Boutique, THANK YOU!!  It was an absolutely incredible month for us at Suzanne's.  Not only did we have a record breaking number of brides, we had the most unique, diverse, and FABULOUS group of brides.  I mean, ALL of our brides are fabulous, but there was something...different...about this month.  I'm not sure what it was, but we are very grateful.  And we know that all of our future brides will bring the magic with them as well.

To Market, To Market

It's market season in the bridal world.  What's market?  Well, it's kind of how Fashion Week is to the normal fashion industry.  This is the time of year that the designers show us what's in store for the upcoming season and where they market their wares.  It's an exciting time of year for us bridal buyers...seeing the latest gorgeousness never gets old.
The great thing about market season is that it happens not just once, but several times across the country.  Of course, some shows are hotter and bigger than others, but the cool thing is finding out what's hot in different areas of the country.  For example, Jasmine Bridal clued us in as to what's on fire at the Atlanta show...

Matching Optional

I know from my own wedding that it can be very, very hard to find bridesmaids dress that you and your girls love that come in the exact color you are looking for.  In fact, it's nearly impossible.  Unless you're going to choose your wedding colors around a bridesmaid dress, matching can be a chore.
This is why I opted for employing shades of a color in my bridal party.  It makes choosing bridesmaids and many other color-related items (flowers, linens, etc) so much easier!  Check out a design house like Dessy to find dresses in shades of similar colors.  Give yourself one less thing to stress over.

The Kitty Chen Couture Show Is On It's Way...

It's Maggie Time Again!

There is a special place in my heart for the designs by Kitty Chen.  I just heart them so much.  Her 2010 collection was so incredibly romantic...it was breathtaking and I was so excited to get the pieces on as many brides as possible.  Although the Passion (left) has been quite popular, I think my personal favorite is the Jewel.  The asymmetry and the fact that it has straps make it a very unique piece and very high fashion.  I imagine a bride pairing it with spectacularly couture hair pieces with big feathers and flowers.

Wanna See What's In Store For Spring?

Ladies, ladies, ladies….I have seen the future and it is gorgeous!! If you haven’t been into the boutique to see the Sprint 2011 collection from Moonlight Bridal, you simply must! You’ve got one more day, so don’t miss your chance…


Meanwhile, let me clue you in to some of the trends you can expect to see this spring:

• Flowers – the bigger the better! We’ve been seeing flowers on bridal gowns for pretty much the last year or so, but it seems that they are getting bigger and bigger. They are no longer simply a dainty detail. Like wildflowers, they are overtaking the entire gown creating full skirts and look-at-me necklines. Bouquets rule!

• Bare your beautiful shoulders! The one-shoulder trend continues into the spring. But rather than just plain fabric draped across your smooth skin, this spring your shoulders will be flowered and jeweled. Yep, this spring the shoulders will definitely be having more fun.

• Bows, bows, and more bows. We saw a hint of this trend in the Spring 2010 collections. But you’ll definitely be seeing more of it next spring. What I like about the new take on bows is that they’re big and unstructured. No stiff, little girl bows on these gowns. These bows demand attention – and are bound to get it, as will you.

• Expect to see pops of color. I was super excited to see bursts of color throughout the collection. Personally, being something of a non-traditional bride, I really embrace the idea of color in wedding gowns. I don’t think it’s anything to be scared of. It adds a personal, modern touch to an otherwise traditional style. Featured this weekend were reds, blues, and even black! Divine!

• It’s the return of the full skirt! After a few seasons of slim line gowns trouncing all over the ball gown, big skirts are back! I, for one, am pleased. Don’t worry, the sexiness isn’t gone. We’re still seeing very sleek, rouched tops but the skirts are full and bountiful – often designed with tiers of ruffles, flowers, or lace. What’s not to love?

• Vintage lovers rejoice! For the bride who wants that traditional vibe, how about a little antique lace…or a lot? Lots of white and ivory antique lace was seen throughout the collections; a nod to the continuing vintage wedding trend.

Overall, I am expecting to see lots of romance and fantasy in the spring trends with exaggerated bows and flowers and pops of colors on full, tiered skirts. And I think you’ll find just what you’re looking for.

Now THIS Is Something Blue!

I usually spend about an hour in the morning skimming through a laundry list of wedding and fashion blogs.  On this particular morning, everything stopped when I eyed these shoes on a featured bride on Style Me Pretty.  Hello Lover!
I immediately went on a treasure hunt to find these gems to see if they were even remotely in my reality range - and guess what - they are (kinda)!
The shoes are (of course) by Vivienne Westwood (of Carrie Bradshaw wedding gown fame) and you can find them on Patricia Field's website (stylist on Sex & The City).  They retail for $150 but my love for them is priceless.  The one's pictured on Style Me Pretty had adorable red hearts, but I was quite happy to find that they come with blue hearts as well.  Wouldn't that make the perfect "something blue?"  I think so.

Keeping Up The Facades

Lest you all think that we only care about getting you in a dress, worry not!  We want you to look fabulous head to toe on your big day - from dress to, well..., eyelashes.

When I'm not spending time with brides, I'm researching the latest in beauty products.  Today I ran across a new product called DUO (Sephora, $8), a seriously strong lash adhesive.  The last thing you want is for your carefully placed, faux eyelashes to come undone mid-"I do."   This new lash adhesive is supposed to eliminate any worry of that, so you can stress about other wedding day issues like...what if the minister shows up drunk (yes, this has really happened). :)
At least you'll look good.

A Little Look at Anjolique's Spring 2011 Collection

Anjolique Bridal is one of my favorite lines.  There is a unique simplicity to their gowns.  The detailing always has this hand-crafted feel to it...almost as if their designers moonlighted on etsy.com.  In any event, I was, of course, swooning over the little peek they sent us of the Spring 2011 line.  Is there anything not to love about the ruched top and subtly sweetheart neckline?  And what about that gorgeous, sparkling bouquet at the hip? 

The season that I got married (Fall 2006), gray was very in as a bridal gown color (yes, you read that right) and I always wondered how that would go off.  Perhaps we will see a rejuvenation of the gray palates for spring?  I hope so.

Maggie Sottero's 2010 Fall Collection - Coming Soon!

Well, we can't give away too much yet, but we can say that Maggie Sottero's Fall Collection is going to be one of their best.  When we were buying for fall, there were so many amazing dresses in their collection that we simply couldn't decide amongst them all! 
The new collection continues many of the "Old Hollywood" shapes that we've been seeing as of late, but puts a decidedly romantic twist on them.  You'll see satins mixed with softer fabrics like tulle, designed to create an almost ethereal feel.  As promised by all the fashion editors, bows are going to be big, big, BIG next season and you'll be seeing plenty of them in the Maggie Sottero collection.
We think that the more traditional brides will appreciate a small comeback of the full skirted gown.  We saw a lot of more form fitted gowns in Maggie's last collection, but there are some full gowns coming that you are simply going to fall in love with - we certainly did.  Another detail we saw a lot of in this new collection: three dimensional flowers.  Oooooh, how romantic!
The Maggie Sottero Fall 2010 collection will be online soon.  Gowns will start arriving in store probably around late August.  As they start pouring in, we'll let you know.  Meanwhile, for brides who can't wait that long, be sure to come by the boutique and check out the hundreds of Maggie Sottero gowns that are already in store.  You are going to find something that is just right for you!

Justin Alexander is one of the boutique's favorite designers and any time they get press we love to let our brides know!  For example...

This Friday morning, April 23rd, Brides Magazine's Editor in Chief, Millie Martini Bratten, will be presenting a fashion show of the latest bridal trends on Good Morning America on the ABC network. Brides has chosen 8509 to feature in the section on Black & White dresses. Miss Arizona's Having Fun In Vegas
