Bridal Spring 2014 Trend: Silver Accents

Many of the top bridal designers have been wowing us at the Spring 2014 Bridal shows. The runways have been full of gorgeous gowns, and there are already some clear trends showing up. One that we really love is silver accents.

The trend is showing up in many collections, and ranges from silver gowns to delicate embroidery with silver thread. In all cases, it's a bit of bling and a whole lot of glamour.

Designers from Oscar de la Renta to Reem Acra are bringing silver touches to their bridal collections. Along with embroidery, silver is also making an appearance in beading and sequins. The overall effect is one of feminine beauty, but the looks can vary greatly.

Silver is a great metallic tone, and one that is perfect as an accent on a white gown. It can be a subtle addition, or can really make a statement. It's also perfect for the Gatsby-inspired weddings that are hugely popular this year!

Should You Allow Bridesmaids To Choose Their Own Gown?

So you've asked five different women, both family and friends, to stand with you for nuptials.  But they all have different skin color, body types and distinct taste in fashion.

Should you allow them to choose their own bridesmaid gowns or force them to wear what you've picked out?  We've listed a few ideas you may want to consider:

Cost - Typically if you allow bridesmaids to choose their own gown then you don't have to buy them.  Simply give them a color to stay with and let them choose their own style.

Scope out dresses on your own but give them a choice - You may want to pick out a few styles and colors that you like then let them choose for those.  That will ensure each can dress their own body type but they will all still fit well with your decor and color scheme.

How involved you are in choosing your bridesmaids' gowns is up to you.  However, there is a fine line in pleasing the ladies of your bridal party and getting the look you want for your wedding.  Do you need help?  We're here for you.  Stop by and let's chat about your vision and how we can ensure it's met.

Thank you Amber!!!

Amber's dream come true!

"On April 2, after 12 years of friendship and dating I married my best friend and high school sweetheart! We waited a long time, primarily so we could finish college, find jobs and afford to pay for the wedding of our dreams. Mission accomplished! We were married at Stonebridge Manor in front of 175 of our friends and relatives. The ceremony, the reception, the music, the food, the cake- it was all beautiful. Most importantly, my Maggie Sottero dress altered to perfection by Suzanne, made me feel absolutely gorgeous on the day that I had long been waiting for."

"I was so happy with my wedding dress experience I sent my best friend to Suzanne's for her dress- she'll be in for her last fitting with Suzanne in a few weeks!"

Amber- Looking at your gorgeous photographs just makes all those times you came to see us for appointments or fittings - just that much more memorable! We love that you choose us to help make your wedding dreams come true - and even more that you refer us to your friends!
That's a true compliment! - Best wishes always!

How to Choose a Wedding Gown For Your Body Type

According to a study conducted by Cornell University, 70 percent of engaged women said they wanted to lose weight, typically 20 pounds, before their wedding day.  The reason?  To look good in their wedding photos.  Brides are starving themselves, going on crash diets and asking their doctors to insert a feeding tube into their nose.  Brides, you don't have to go to extremes to look good on your wedding day.  The trick is to choose the right dress.

Today, wedding gowns are made for every body type.  Here is a quick guide to help you choose the right wedding gown for the shape you're living in today:

  • If you're pear shaped - Look for: A skirt that gradually flares out in an A formation from the natural waist to the floor, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating away from the hips and thighs.
  • If you're busty - Look for: A dress with a scooped neckline. It will open up your face and display your décolletage without showing too much cleavage. If you love the look of strapless gowns, choose one that has a slight dip along the neckline, like a sweetheart, rather than a style that goes straight across.
  • If you're plus sized - Look for: An Empire dress with a skirt that begins just under the bust and flows into a gradual floor-length A-line. Make sure the Empire seam does not start on the chest and that there is no pleating of the fabric, which is reminiscent of maternity wear. The dress should play up your shape; if it’s too loose, it will add pounds.
  • If you're apple shaped - Look for: A dress that cinches in at the smallest point on the waistline, then flares out into a gradual A shape. Opt for a bodice with a lot of texture to it―think ruche or lace detailing―that will camouflage and fit snugly, creating a corsetlike effect. The most slenderizing neckline for you is one with a deep V, which will draw eyes toward the vertical, not the horizontal.
  • If you're tall - Look for: A simple silhouette. The strategy is to emphasize your natural shape, so every aspect of the dress―the lower waistline, a floor-sweeping hem―needs to reflect your longer proportions. If you're wearing long sleeves, they should go past the wrist. You don't want to look as if you've borrowed a gown from someone shorter than you.
  • If you're straight lined- Look for: A dress that will create curves where you don’t have them. Try a sheath dress in a wispy charmeuse that’s cut on the bias; the curving side seam will give you a va-va-va-voom silhouette. Or look for a ball gown that cinches in at your natural waist and descends into a full, flowing floor-length skirt: It will capitalize on your slenderness and camouflage a lack of hips.
  • If you're petite - Look for: Trumpet, sheath, and modified A-line gowns. Find a style with a waistline above your natural waist, to make the lower half of the dress (and therefore you) appear longer. The fabric is up to you―you can pull off a high sheen. But the detailing should be small (no huge bows) and limited to the bodice, to draw the eye upward.
  • If you're small chested - Look for: A ruched bodice. Extra fabric up top will help fill out your upper body and create the illusion of curves. Lightly padded halter styles will also do the trick.
Regardless of your body type, we can help you find the perfect wedding gown that will make you feel stunning.  Come by and see us at 645 N. Gilbert Rd., Gilbert, AZ  85234 ~ (480) 926-9106.

Get A 20s Inspired Wedding Look

Did you see the new trailer for The Great Gatsby this week? The film is going to be one of this year’s biggest blockbusters, and has already started to influence brides. If you want to have your own 20s inspired wedding look, here are a few of our top tips.

  • Flapper girl styles: Many designers offer styles that are made just for the 20s trend. These flapper girl inspired styles are a great look for many brides, but not for everyone.
  • Beaded details: No matter what your shape, the Art Deco aesthetic can be found in beaded details. This is a great option if the flapper styles aren’t right for you.
  • Headbands: Headbands were a huge part of 1920s fashion, and should be part of your 20s inspired wedding look. These can be a bit glitzy, with crystal or beaded touches, or plain.
  • Jewelry: Long strands of pearls, dangling earrings, and other bits of sparkle can be a great way of bringing the Jazz Age to today.

If you’re looking for all the perfect touches for your 20s inspired wedding look, come by Suzanne’s Bridal!

Handling a Pregnant Bridesmaid

You're excited about your upcoming wedding, and want your closest girlfriends to be your bridesmaids. But what do you do if one of them is pregnant?

The first thing to do is have a conversation with her about it. Give her the opportunity to decline, and let her know that you completely understand. Maybe there's something else she can do in the wedding, such as help with your hair and makeup.

If she is still up for being a bridesmaid, you'll need to be ready to adjust your dress choices for her. Many styles can work fine with a bump, but others just won't fit right. In either case, you may need to allow for an extra fitting for her right before the big day.

You can also allow her to wear a dress that is different from the other bridesmaids. A different style in the same material can still give you a uniform look without making her uncomfortable.

If you're looking for perfect bridesmaid dresses, whether the bridesmaids are pregnant or not, make an appointment to come by Suzanne's Bridal Boutique to see all we have to offer!
