Would You Wear Shorts to Your Wedding? This Celebrity Did!

Celebrity brides are well-known for setting dress trends and choosing some offbeat styles. Olivia Palermo, former star of The City, has joined the ranks as the latest bride who opted for a less traditional style.

The 28-year-old wore a cashmere sweater and white shorts with a tulle overlay. The look was designed by Carolina Herrera and featured a high slit in the overlay skirt, allowing Palermo to show off her legs.

Her groom, German model Johannes Huebl, was also dressed in white. His slim fitting white suit was paired with a white shirt, black tie, and black handkerchief. Palermo announced the wedding, which took place in a small New York park, via Twitter, posting a photo of them in their wedding attire.

Separates were a big trend on this year's bridal runways, so it's only fitting that a fashionista like Palermo would choose a wedding dress like this. However, the combination of sweater and shorts is something pretty unique.

What do you think of what Olivia Palermo wore on her wedding day? Would you wear shorts to your wedding?

Warm Weather Dresses for Moms

As the mother of the bride or mother of the groom, you want to look your best for their big day, but with the heat of summer, you might be concerned about overheating. Here are a few tips for finding a great looking dress that will keep you comfortable for your daughter or son's wedding day.

  • Look for layers: One of the best ways to ensure you're comfortable is to look for a dress that has a few pieces. A sleeveless dress with a jacket is a perfect choice as mother of the occasion, and can allow you to adjust your temperature with ease. This can come in handy if the ceremony is outdoors but the reception is in an air conditioned ballroom, or vice versa.

  • Consider fabrics: The right fabric will make a huge difference in your comfort. Softer, looser fabrics will give you more air circulation and be more comfortable in the heat. Natural fibers are often more comfortable in warmer weather, too.

  • Short isn't always best: Don't assume that you'll be more comfortable in a shorter dress. Longer dresses often allow for looser skirts, making them more comfortable. A formal take on a sun dress can be an excellent choice for a mom.

When you look for the perfect dress to wear to your son or daughter's wedding, it is worth shopping at a Phoenix bridal salon with a great selection of dresses for moms. Is a Reception Dress a Must Have or a Must Miss?

Kim Kardashian had one, and chances are you’ve known a bride who has had one. But should you have a second dress to wear at your wedding reception? More than just a matter of cost, it is actually quite a debate.

The arguments against having a second dress are pretty straightforward. You’ve put so much energy into finding the perfect dress, why take it off early? By focusing your attention on choosing one dress, you can have the full budget and time to find a dress that suits both ceremony and reception. It also means that you carry on the same style throughout all the day’s photos.

Those who argue for a second dress do make some compelling points themselves, though. A second dress allows you to choose something far less formal for the evening reception. This can also mean that you don’t need to worry about damaging your wedding gown while you’re eating or dancing. If you are wearing a family gown for the ceremony, a reception dress allows you to show off your own style.

What do you think about brides wearing a second dress? Will you wear one or two dresses on your wedding day? In either case, you’ll need to shop at a fantastic Phoenix bridal salon. Give us a call today to find out more about what we offer!

Alternative Dresses for Funky Brides

While many brides dream of a long, white princess-style gown, others want something a bit different. If you can't see yourself in the meringue, here are a few alternative styles that are perfect for a fun and funky bride.

Colorful gowns

There's no need to stick to white. Many bridal designers are including bold color choices in their collections. These gowns keep a bridal silhouette while moving away from white. Whether you go with a cool mint green or a deep, dark black gown, look for something that is flattering for your figure and skin tone.

Short dresses

Another way to stand out from the bridal crowd is to wear a shorter gown. A full short skirt can be a great choice for a summer wedding with a rock and roll twist. Pair this with bright red lipstick and a fun cardigan for a perfect rockabilly retro style.

Non-Bridal

Just because you're the bride, don't feel you have to go for a dress labelled as being for the bride. Try looking at bridesmaids and mother of the bride collections for fabulous gowns that are different from the usual bridal choices. You can find a style that is available in white or a neutral tone such as ivory, or go bold with a different color, too.

Kardashians On Top of Trends with Bridesmaids in White

It’s no surprise that a fashion-centered family like the Kardashians would be at the forefront of wedding trends. When Kim Kardashian married Kanye West in Italy, her bridesmaids were on-trend in white dresses. Khloe Kardashian posted a photo of herself on the big day, showing off her fabulous white bridesmaid dress and the beautiful Italian venue.

While white is a color many brides shy away from for their attendants, it really does create a beautiful style. There’s no need to fear that you won’t stand out as the bride. Your guests will certainly know who their eyes should be on, and your dress will undoubtedly be more spectacular than what your maids are wearing. Two famous brides whose maids wore white, Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton, are proof that there is no need to be worried!

With your wedding party all in white, you get a beautiful uniformity. This also means that your maids can easily wear different dresses, finding styles that suit their body types. It’s also a great basis for colorful accessories.
