Spring 2013 Wedding Color Trends

Spring is a magical time -- all the flowers are blooming, the weather is warming up, and it's the height of wedding season. Of course, this means it's also time for a lot of great new wedding color trends. Here are a few of our favorites.

  • Pastels with a twist. While pastels are always popular wedding colors, this spring there are some changes to the usual uses. Brides are opting for a touch of color in their own dresses -- pink and mint green being the top choices.
  • Ombres. Another way pastels are making their way into weddings is as part of an ombre. This is a great way to have a single wedding color, but allow bridesmaids to have a range of shade choices within it. It also looks great for cakes and floral arrangements.
  • Greys. It might not be the color you immediately associate with weddings, but grey is a big one for spring. It's being used in combination with brighter colors, especially yellow, pink, and blue. This keeps them from being overwhelming, and keeps the grey from being too somber.
What are your favorite spring wedding color trends? If you want to find out how to use any of these in your wedding, give us a call!

Why Go To A Trunk Show?

A bridal trunk show can be an excellent way to get a great dress at a great price. They can also be great fun!

A trunk show gives you the opportunity to see a designer's full line of wedding gowns. This can mean the chance to see all the find details that you might not get to see in photos, and styles that aren't normally carried in store. At a trunk show, you can find the dress of your dreams, and it might be one that you wouldn't otherwise get a chance to see.

Because of this special bonus, trunk shows are by appointment only, and spaces are limited. You'll also get the benefit of being able to talk about the designs, which can be helpful in finding your perfect dress. At a trunk show, you can also work with the designer to make custom changes to a dress if there's something you'd like altered in the design.

We've got a Moonlight Bridal Trunk Show coming up, and it's an opportunity not to be missed. From March 22 to 24, Moonlight Bridal will be on hand to show off some really stunning bridal styles.

If you haven't already, get in touch with us to book your space at this trunk show now!

Designer Spotlight: Moonlight

Moonlight Val Stefani's sister designer duo Stephanie and Valerie Chin are a match made in heaven! Stephanie gave us the low down on their to-die-for Spring designs!

SBB: Suzanne’s has an exclusive on Val Stefani bridal dresses. What does this mean for brides?
SC: For brides that love Val Stefani, Suzanne’s is the place to go. They will have the best selling styles and superior service that our Val Stefani brides are looking for.

SBB: What was the principle inspiration behind your Spring line?
SC: This season was inspired by The Glowing Garden by Bruce Munro. We were inspired by the juxtaposition of modern elements within nature. This collection is based off the combination of unexpected elements and creating dramatic statements with embellishments. Focusing on the combination of these contrasting textures and embellishments helps to bring new life to classic silhouettes. Drawing upon natural elements for shapes and lace patterns and arrangements resulted in breathtaking results. Blurring the lines between nature and fashion by being able to meld the fashion landscape with what is found naturally occurring in nature. So each design is melding the light and fashion landscape into one.

SBB: What unifies your Spring collection? What makes it different from the lines of your competitors?
SC: The unifying element of our Spring Collection is our use of different textures. That can be from adding handmade fabric detailing such as petal organza or from the use of layering of lace. Our collections from Moonlight and Val Stefani have a range price points that has something for every bride.

SBB:
Which gown is your top performer? Which are your personal favorites?
SC: Choosing a favorite gown for us is like asking a parent to choose their favorite child! All the months of work that go into each dress makes it hard to choose.

SBB:
Is this season more Valerie, more Stephanie, or an equal blend of both of you?
Every dress from every collection we design is a direct reflection of both of our personalities. When we design we have work together create the best design for each style.  We balance each other out because we have such different personalities and taste so our designs reflect that balance. One of us will be like add more while the other will want to streamline the design. Every style is a really good mix of our personalities.

SBB: What type of bride do you imagine when you design?
SC: We have always had the desire to create exquisite feminine gowns drawing from our global influences and combining from vintage inspired embellishments with modern styling. We design for the romantic bride that has a timeless and elegant aesthetic.

SBB: What is your favorite bridal trend for Spring 2013?
SC: We are currently inspired by blush tones and vintage inspired lace. We find that colors are a great way to incorporate the color palate of your wedding and help give your gown that extra pop accent. A color sash also helps to accent your waistline and give you a more hourglass figure. We find our brides being more adventurous with their color choices and even going for blush tone gowns like our Moonlight Collection style J6265 as well as our Val Stefani style D8038.

An Edible Wedding Dress?!

We couldn't resist a mention of this fabulous wedding cake! Designed by the Fairytale Cake Company, the cake was given its public debut at the National Wedding Show in Birmingham, England.

The life-size dress is made up of 17 layers of cake, frosting, and jam. It is priced at $9,000, roughly the same as many couture designer gowns. The style of the cake, a single-strapped, trumpet-skirted gown, is based on the baker's own wedding dress. She attributes the idea of the cake to her six-year-old daughter.

Of course, this is the second big money cake that has been on display in England this year. Last month a Manchester-area baker made the news for a diamond-encrusted cake that was deemed the most expensive wedding cake ever made, with a price tag of over $50 million.

The wedding dress cake is something we love the look of, but if you'd rather have a dress that isn't edible, we have plenty of great styles available here in our Gilbeert boutique. Give us a call or stop by to see what buttercream-free choices we have for you!

Bridal Body Shape Guide from Ellis Bridal

Have you ever tried on a dress style you really loved... but it didn't work once it was on your body type? The best way to find your perfect shape and fit is to try on wedding dresses in all the classic shapes. Ball gown, Sheath, A-line, Mermaid, etc - Maybe you aren't exactly an Apple, Triangle, Pear, or Hourglass shape, but more of a mixture. Just allow your bridal consultant to guide you by trying on something you didn't think you would like... you may just be surprised.

Ellis Bridal posted this super helpful Body Shape Guide, and we wanted to share these tips with you.
Sure hope you find them helpful and a good resource for your gown shopping. Remember not everything is set in stone - sometimes you have to experiment with a gown just a little to make it come together and create the complete look for you!

This week we're highlighting the Exclusive Gowns available at Suzanne's Bridal by Ellis Bridal, we have an amazing selection of Spring 2013 gowns here for the trunk show this weekend - Call us today there are a few appointments still available!

Finding your dream dress means paying close attention to
your shape. We have put together a little guide for you
featuring some of the classic shapes.

Apple shape – A rounder tummy and hips.
An empire-line will nip you in at your narrowest point giving
you a leaner look. Choose a gown that flares from underneath
the bust, such as the Ellis style 19010. An A-line could also
work, balancing the shoulders with a voluminous cape.

Triangle shape – Shoulders wider than the hips.
A good idea is to balance the shoulders by adding width to
your hips, such as a large skirt with a nipped-in waist. Gowns
with descending details on the lower half will draw the eye
downwards.

Pear shape – Shoulders narrower than the hips.
An A-line skirt will create balance with a high nipped-in
waist, giving an illusion of length.

Hourglass shape – Shoulders and hips in line with
a nipped in waist.
Accentuate your waist and embrace your shape! Show off
your best assets with a gown that nips in at the waist.
